This beautiful ancient village nestled in the heart of the Giffre Valley, is one of the most easily accessible areas of the Alps. Samoens has been awarded a coveted Coq d’Or for being one of the prettiest villages in France and is the only ski resort that has been classified by the Caisse des Monuments Historique. Because of these prestigious accolades, the area has not fallen prey to the vast concrete structures of large tour operators that have become the signature of so many alpine resorts so we can guarantee that during your stay you will sample the ‘true’ France.

Dating back to the 13th Century, Samoens was once a thriving stone cutting centre and it still retains many features from this era. The beautiful ancient church, just in front of Amaryllis, flanks one side of the square with it’s medieval fountain and covered market area. This is the perfect place to have a drink in one of the cafes and watch the world go by, or plan your next adventure! The town boasts a host of excellent restaurants ranging from traditional French Savoyard to Pizzerias and a number of cafes and bars for example, Coveys, and Aspen Bar. There is a large variety of interesting shops, a weekly market and all amenties that you would expect from a well equipped mountain resort. Read the recent Telegraph Newspaper article on the village.

The Botanical garden winds its way up from the village floor to provide wonderful views of the town and surrounding area. Mountain lakes, national parks, the famous waterfalls at Sixt Fer a Cheval, and stunning scenery surround Samoens, making it the perfect base in which to explore the area (see Summer Activities, Winter Activites). The town is also labelled as a P’tits Montagnards resort making it an ideal family destination, and as it is populated all the year round, it has something to offer everyone whatever the season, and whatever level of activity required whether it be sky diving or just plain relaxing!
