When dreaming of the Alps most envisage snow capped peaks, brilliant sunshine, blue skies and long sweeping ski slopes. Whilst the sunshine and blue skies are the same, in reality the Alps have more to offer in the summer than the winter. Take a look at the following activities that Samoens has to offer and you soon see why this is an all year round resort with something for everyone but don't forget we have a pool, sauna, hot tub and large gardent at the house for you to enjoy as well!

Walking. Easily the most popular summer activity and it is not difficult to see why with over 900km of marked trails around Samoens that will suit all levels. From the flat valley floor to soaring mountain tops this activity allows everyone to fully engage the region at their own pace. Guided tours are available and recommended for the more demanding routes. We work closely with www.outbreak-adventure.co.uk  and for the super fit, why not come and stay and attempt some of these activities www.crioutdoor.com/trail/

Mountain Biking. 600km plus of the most exhilarating routes. All mapped and with or without a guide this is one of the best ways to explore the mountain range. Remember some of the chair lifts work through the summer!

Road biking.  Professional teams come to this area not only for training but competition. Put yourself in the shoes of the Tour de France riders and attempt the challenging Col de Joux Plane. If this is not your idea of fun then relax and enjoy the flat valley floor that stretchs all the way to Lake Leman (Geneva) or the more easier inclines of other surrounding routes.

The River Giffre. This splendid mountain river flows right through Samoens. Canoeing, rafting and airboating (one person inflatable dingy boat) can all be arranged locally and is great fun at www.ecolorado-rafting.com

Potholing. Due to the geographical nature of the valley there exist in and around Samoens some of the best underground caves in Europe. Indeed one of the deepest in the world, the Gouffre Jean Bernard, is located in Samoens.

Via Ferrata. This is an extension of serious hiking where rock climbing is added into the adventure! A challenging combination of scrambling and climbing rockfaces with man-made courses of pegs and cables, fixed ropes, ladders and hand rails. They vary in length and difficulty to suit most people’s appetites for adventure, and some sites have special courses for children. (Helmets and harnesses are required and can be hired locally.)

Golf. Low or high handicapped it is difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting to play a round of golf anywhere else in the world. There are four 18 hole courses within easy reach at Les Gets, Flaine, Chamonix and Evian.

Air. How about seeing the mountains as the eagles do? Helicopter rides or even parapenting will allow you to see in one go how vast and awesome this region is. Samoens is a mecca for parapenting and trips with instructor are highly recommended.

Horse Riding. After a couple of days of exercise its about time someone else did the hard work! Enjoy the beauty and wildlife without all the effort.

Activites in Samoens. There are plenty of things to do within Samoens itself. You can relax by the crystal clear lake, or challenge yourself to the high ropes and assualt course in the forest of the Indiana Park.  Tennis, out door swimming pools, golf range (into a section of the lake!) are all on hand and there is a weekly market to explore.

Guided tours of the old village can be arranged, the Clos Parchet living museum is an old Samoens farm where you can discover the history of Samoens people is worth a visit. You can also visit the local cheese-making factory and sample local products.
